09/12/2005: "On The Way To WA"

Hey All - Steph here for Larissa. I got a quick email from her late last night. She's leaving Mississippi early this morning with Bryan. her son, the mice and the cats. (Not sure about her friend's lizard.)

She's pretty well exhuasted. It sounds like they've ripped everything out of the house, down to the drywall and insulation. They couldn't save much at all - too much seawater and too much mold. She did say that the town's under total military control and that there's a huge police presence there as well. However, there was no sign of FEMA. She's having a tough time getting in touch with them.

Anyway, she's hoping to be in Washington by Friday, (mentioned something about sleeping for a week once she got there) and she'll call me from the road to check in. And I'll make sure I check in here with you.

Wishing them a safe trip.

Steph T.

Hi,
Steph--please let her know that I live on I-84 in Idaho. I am in Nampa and she would be more than welcome to stay at my house for the night instead of a hotel! I am 5 miles off the freeway, but easy to locate! We would love to let her have a bed for a night or two even if she wants! just send me an email to let me know when smile

Keeping everyone in my prayers.

I have no clue what the route to get to Washington is, but if she passes through Denver and wants a place to rest, she's more than welcome at my house.

My brother's had trouble getting FEMA to take care of him, too, although his neighbors seem to have had no trouble.

Safe travels to WA. FEMA will get there. I imagine they're swamped, but when it's you that's waiting, they're too darn slow.

I was just watching CNN about Mississippi bringing a suit against the insurance copies. A man named Richard Scudd (?) is the lawyer involved. It did not mention how to contact him because they were on about why the insurance companies should pay. Anyways, might be something for Larissa to look into. Let's face it, selling huricane insurance that does not allow for water damage is definitely underhanded and could be considered fraud. Why didn't they just call it 'wind' damage protection.

Sorry, insurance companies and banks make me nuts. Hopefully this helps Larissa find the right people to help.

Hope everything's going okay and can't wait for your return!

And amen on the lawsuit...it's horrifying what the insurance companies are doing.
