08/25/2005: "Writing!"
I had a great writing day yesterday. Yay! Steph and I decided that we needed to take drastic measures, so we've entered into an evil pact. We...oh, I shudder to even say this...TURN OFF OUR EMAIL and write for 1/2 hour. If things are going good, we go for another 1/2 hour. We've survived the panic attacks that come with turning off your email only because we hold hands via instant messenger.
So we've got the email off, but we still have an online lifeline. And at the end of our writing time, we have to share our best sentence we wrote during our writing spree. It's actually kinda fun.
Oh, and speaking of fun, check out Dee's latest installment in her Seven Deadly Writing Sins series. This week's topic is vanity. My favorite part: "Second in line is the Beginning Writer. Few people are as cock sure that they know what they are doing as people who do not."
Too funny.
Also, Beth Ciotta just signed a 3 book deal with HQN! Congrats, Beth!

I go by pages, not half hours. I have to write 2 pages before I can look at email. It's torture but it's the only way for me, attention deficit to the extreme lol, to work.

That's pretty smart, Jill! When I'm working on my own, I go by pages, but the problem is that my discipline sucks. I found that it was sooooo much easier to have someone else just a click away who was going through the same misery! LOL

I knew you liked it when I was miserable...

Hey crazy lady. I came upon a quote today I thought you may appreciate:
The purpose of a writer is to keep civilization from destroying itself.
--Albert Camus
Phew! Now the burden is all yours. How about writing some lower gas prices? No? Oh well, that guy may be named Albert but he's no Einstein.

Yay on the writing, Larissa! I go by number of words. I usually set a minimum of 500 words per day. I don't always meet the quota, but when contests are around the corner, that's the best way to get my latin butt off the internet and write.

I am so undisciplined -- yesterday, I just forced myself into a program where I send my cp all my work for the day, with a word count. And if I don't meet the word count, there are dire consequences (no coffee the next day).
I think it'll work, not because of the coffee, but the embarrassment of not sending anything to the cp. Like, making an excuse or something will feel really, really hollow.

Good for you! I have some friends who did that, and they said it worked really well for them. They did it one day a week.

LOL, Larissa, you absolute angel!
And hey, cool idea. My CP and I are pretty much always connected on MSN, lol. We don't always talk, but esp when writiing, it's so nice that I can check in and know she's in hell too, lol. I usually set a word count limit. Can't get up--except to do the essential fluid bidness, lol--until that's done. Goals are the most important part of writing, I think. If you can meet them for yourself, you can eventually learn to meet them for pubs. Good on ya!
Smooches,
Dee
