08/18/2005: "Finally Finished..."

a friend's novel.

I've got several novels in my TBR pile that I've purchased, been given, or have won from blog-buddies, but I haven't had much time to read them. Some I'm holding off for special occasions, some I'm holding off on because they are ebooks, and I need to wait until I get my laptop fixed before I can read them, and others are so different from what I normally read that I'm waiting until I'm "in the mood."

But I was in the mood to finish Portia Da Costa's (aka Wendy Wootton's) Shadowplay. wink

Having never read a Black Lace novel, I didn't know what to expect. What I got was...wow. Steamy! *g* The book was well-written, the sex scenes well-done. I would like to have seen the paranormal aspect explored more, and I would love to have seen a little more character development in places, but overall, I remained engaged in the writing and the story. I adore British-set stories, so the fact that the story took place in an old mansion and on lush grounds was wonderful. I'd definitely like to check out more Black Lace books, and more of Portia's novels.

By the way, this is off-topic but I wanted to bring it up: Over at Dee's Diary, she's doing "Tuesday Teach Day: Introduction to the Seven Deadly Sins," and the first installment took place last Tuesday as "The Seventh Deadly Sin: Overconfidence." Good stuff!

I've read a couple of BL. Some are really good, while others are quite strange. razz I read enough to realize I'd never be able to write one.

Hmmm... I may have to check it out. It sounds like my kind of book. smile

Amy, I've got several more on my wish list--mostly blog buddies! smile

Jordan, I'm with ya. I know I can never write one. The sex scenes would wear me out--I have enough trouble with just two or three less detailed ones!

LOL, Danica LOL

Isn't it hard to keep up with reading all the books we buy from our online and local author friends? I have sooo many to read. I haven't read a BL novel yet, but of course I have one in my TBR pile!

Michelle, the sins stuff is great! Definitely check it out!

Chey, OMG--it is SO hard to keep up with all the books from friends! I've gotten to the point where I buy them to support my buddies, but I just don't have time to actually READ them! crazy

Hey Larissa! Thanks for the link, you angel you! Glad the series is working for you. smile

I have to admit, I haven't picked up a BL book, but on the other hand, I've never even seen one in the stores, I don't think. I know some girlfriends sent me what I think was a BL book--and it was WHOA! I never knew that vibrators could be used in so many ways...like while you're driving down a highway. LOL!

Big hugs!
Dee
