08/16/2005: "What The Cats Gave Me"
My birthday was a few days ago. I don't really celebrate them anymore--not since I halted them at the age of 30. I mean, my own dad even forgot my birthday this year. But you know who didn't forget? The cats.
At five o'clock in the morning, I was awakened by the muffled sound of a *pop!* I got up, all groggy, my vision blurred, and stumbled into the dark kitchen, where I saw Felicks (aka Spoogie,) slinking away. (Background info...Felicks likes to jump up on the counter and use his paw to knock things off in order to make noise and wake us up so we'll feed him.)
So anyway, Felicks obviously knew he was in trouble, so I knew he'd done something really bad--no salt shakers or kitchen timers this time. I chased him through the dark house. Yelling. Cursing. He darted into the dining room. I followed. About halfway through to my bedroom, where the furry little coward had run into, I stubbed my toe on something heavy. Cursing even more viciously, I put my foot down...right into a big pile of something slimy, cold, and wet. I slid across the tile and nearly landed on my butt.
I limped to the light switch, where I find that the heavy thing I stubbed my toe on was a HUGE roll of masking tape Felicks had knocked off the counter. The wet slimy stuff was one of two piles of hairball-icious puke that Geordie had left me. And on the other side of the kitchen, I saw what had made the big popping noise.
Felicks had decided that since the tape hadn't been loud enough when he knocked it onto the floor, he'd needed something bigger. Something breakable. Something expensive.
Like, say...that big unopened bottle of wine that had been sitting by the coffeemaker.
So for my birthday, the cats made sure I was awakened at 5 AM, was injured, and forced to clean up two piles of puke and a shattered bottle of wine.
I swear, wine is still leaking out from under the dishwasher.
Thank God my husband got me a day at a fancy spa for my birthday, because I really need it.

Ah, those puddycats... Don't you just love 'em sometimes? Not.
Mine love to bring in live mice in the middle of the night and release them into the house. Then yours truly has to get up like night of the living dead and try and recatch them so I can release them outdoors.
Love
Wendy

Thanks, Danica! I'm sure I'll enjoy A LOT!
Kacey, you are very smart. I should start doing that with my son. I have taught him that Mother's Day is a HUGE deal, though!
Thanks, Cece! I'm excited, because this is the first spa visit I've ever taken. I get a 1 hour massage, a 1/2 hour facial (or vice versa,) and a body part waxed. Um...I'm scared of the waxing...

Happy Birthday!! And enjoy the spa! I pointed out to my husband that a massage would a great present if he was in doubt of what to get me . . . wonder if he got that hint?

Baaaaad kitties. Very baaaad. Not the best way to treat the person who feeds you.
Yeah, like cats care about that
Ah, the joys of owning cats.
Enjoy your day at the spa :-) And happy birthday (I try to ignore mine too)

I'm excited about it, Steph! I never would have paid for something like that on my own.
Thanks, Sasha--yeah, I'm terrified!
LOL, Teresa! Let us know if he did!
Teresa, my kitties are VERY bad. Funny though, they don't seem to care...
Thanks, Joely!
