07/15/2005: "A Quick One"
I wasn't going to post today because I have to take off for Biloxi in a little while, but I had to congratulate Sasha on her sale. Yay, Sasha!
Also, Emily is a category 4 hurricane now, but don't be fooled by the reports that it's weakening. It's simply restructuring. It's developed a second eyewall, which is indicative of a very powerful hurricane. As the first eye dies and the second fully forms, the storm will weaken, but when the reforming is done, the thing should intensify again as an even more powerful hurricane.
Right now it looks like we may be spared, but southern Texas might need to start getting ready.
Still, I'm not going to fully relax--hurricanes in that same pattern have been known to hit the Yucatan and then curl up and strike the central to eastern gulf. Plus, there's that nasty system behind Emily that's more to the north.
Gosh, it's fun living on the gulf coast...

Good to have you back, Larissa! Hurricane Emily passed us along the way. It brought some rain, but it wasn't as bad as we thought it would.

(((Silma!))) I forgot you live out in the middle of all of this. Isn't it scary??? I told my husband he isn't allowed to get stationed on an island, because in case of something like that, there's no way off!
What's weird is that a few years ago I'd have loved all of this, being a weather freak and all. But now that I have a kid, things have changed. My number one priority is my son.
Jill, a break would be nice. I'd really like to get some writing done!

ACK! Good luck on the storms. We here in the desert are dry, dry, dry. We'd like a little of that rain. We're not asking for much, just a little.
