12/31/2004: "The Call Bottle"

I have this tradition that I've been doing for a couple of years now--one that every year I hope to never do again.

On January 2nd or 3rd, I buy a bottle of champagne. Not a super expensive one, but not crap, either. That's my "The Call" bottle. It's there so I always have one just in case.

If the year passes without "The Call," then on New Year's Eve, I drink it in celebration of the new year and in hopes that the next bottle of champagne will be finished before the next New Year's Eve. It's kind of healing in that I'm washing away the year with something tasty and mood-lifting, big grin and it gives me a shiny new outlook on the new year when I go out and pick out that new bottle of champagne.

Anyone else do this or something similar?

And...Happy New Year!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a fabulous idea!! big grin No, I didn't do anything like that, didn't even have champagne when I got the call, but I wish I would have after hearing your tradition. I love it. razz

Well, you could get a bottle to keep around for the next sale or the sale of your first ST or something! smile So you could still do the New Year's thing...while hoping you won't have to! wink

Wow, what a great idea! Hmmm, I think I will start this tradition myself. The only tradition we do is a get-together with the hubby's brothers and my sister for some board games and movies. One year we totally missed midnight because we were in The Perfect Storm.

What a great tradition smile

Here's to being able to drink the new bottle very, very soon. Like mid January would work for me. *mutters something about revisiting her goals for more patience in 2005*

Haven't done it before, but I love the idea! In fact, my husband and I bought two mini bottles of champagne for New Year's. Sadly, we only drank one. I think that might serve the same purpose. smile

Here's hoping you drink the bottle before December 31, though I admire your restraint. At Chez Booksquare, we are pushing the idea that champagne isn't just for special moments. It's all about degrees of magnitude. Or so we tell the husband.

This is a wonderful tradition. Here's hoping you treat yourself accordingl.
