04/13/2004: "SHAME on you, Canada!"

For allowing and financing the cruel slaughter of the largest number of baby seals IN HISTORY. Today as yesterday, ten thousand seal pups as young as 2 weeks old will be beaten to death--or worse, left to slowly die or skinned alive.

And Canada WANTS this to happen and is trying to keep the public from seeing it.

I'm wondering if you even read the articles on the links you posted. Your blog entry seems a bit inflamatory towards all Canadians when in reality it is only a few areas of the goverment that are creating this.

Absolutely I do NOT blame all Canadians for this! That's ridiculous. You are assuming something that isn't true, and yes, I read several articles about this. I'm blaming the politicians in the Canadian government, not all Canadians!

I wish You could hear tone of voice over the internet. I tried to word my comment so you wouldn't feel it was antagonistic. Just curious.

As a Canadian I would love to replace some of our Goverment. It is severly lacking in a few areas. And there are a lot of us that feel this way, unfortunatly, the population of Quebec close to equals the rest of Canada! It's something I hope to see change in my life time.

As for the Bush/oil comment...I think you might be surpised at how many Canadians support what he's doing. But the media doesn't offer up those opinions.

Tone...yes, you are very right. It's hard to convey tone over the internet and emails. But I think one of my biggest challenges in trying to get my ideas across in emails, blogs, or even novels (just ask my critique partners! ) is trying to remember that sometimes what I write makes sense to me, but not others.

For example, the original post. I think it's BECAUSE I read those articles that I didn't make it clear that I didn't blame ALL Canadians. One article I read even stated that most Canadians are against the seal hunt. So because *I* knew I was blaming only a small portion of the government, I figured that everyone else would know that, too!

Bush/oil/support: Yeah, I'm surprised. You're right; the media doesn't tell us about any Canadian support. Instead, we hear that our national anthem is boo'd at hockey games and that the same is done to our flag when held by school kids.

But then, I shouldn't be surprised that the media only tells us about incidents like that. The media tells us all the bad stuff that happens in Iraq, but they don't tell us the good stuff. They don't tell us that our soldiers volunteer in hospitals and rehabilitation centers and schools over there and are building friendships with the people--people who want us there. No, we only hear about the small number of extremists who want to cause trouble.

I, too, would love to make some changes in the U.S. government, but I think the biggest changes I'd like to make would be in the media!
